Canadian Communities - Windsor, Ontario

Windsor is a city of about 200,000 people and a Jewish community of 1,700. It is located approximately 3-1/2 hours southwest of Toronto. We border the United States at Detroit, Michigan. We have three (3) synagogues and a beautiful Jewish Centre which has just undergone major renovations and which has excellent programs for adults and children. Our community has been involved in settling several families from the former Soviet Union and other European countries as well as Brazil and Argentina.

The major industry in Windsor is automotive and the city is economically strong. Mechanical Engineering, tool and dye, and other technical skills are very much in demand at the present time.

We have very good public schools for the children and there are English language programs for adults.

Windsor’s winter is mild compared to many other Canadian cities. We do have very cold periods and it does snow on occasion. July and August can be hot and humid.
