Ottawa, Ontario


Ottawa and the National Capital Region have been one of the most desirable places to live in Canada. Ottawa is not only the home of the Federal Government but has become one of the high-tech centres of Canada. The Capital Region also boasts many different communities that are excellent places to call home and raise a family.

Ottawa’s city planning is dedicated to maintaining a high standard quality of life by creating ‘green spaces’ for all of its residents to enjoy. In addition, there are several features for the avid outdoor enthusiast including bike paths along the Rideau River and Gatineau Parkways, the Rideau Canal winding through the city, countless parks and nature trails literally around the corner from downtown and residential areas.

The city all also plays host to several popular and world renowned festivals including Winterlude in February, the Tulip Festival in May, and the Jazz and Blues Festival during the summer months. The national museums and galleries have made Ottawa a tourist destination for visitors from near and far.

Ottawa is an ethnically diverse community and all city and government services can be accessed in both English and French. The Jewish Community in Ottawa remains strong with approximately 13,000 members.

Jewish Family Services is the gateway to helping newcomers settle in Ottawa. They provide a wide range of programming including language training, advocacy, employment workshops and counselling. They also offer several social and educational programs for Russian-speaking seniors.

The Jewish Community is home to several different synagogues, temples, chavurahs and shtibels offering a wide range of options covering the spectrum of Jewish beliefs and practices including a small but active Sephardic community. There are a number of options for Jewish education including both day and afternoon schools. In addition, the local Jewish Community Centre boasts a fitness centres, and swimming pools, and hosts many other programs.
