The Hebrew Village
Teaching Children about their Heritage in Hamilton

Adas Israel Synagogue in Hamilton has started a special program for newcomers and families who would like to learn more about their Judaism and the Hamilton Jewish Community.

The program takes place every Sunday morning at the Adas for two hours.  Approximately 30 children attend every week.  These are mostly children of newcomers.  The program teaches by using arts and crafts (some examples are making Challah and Challah covers for Shabbat, Seder plates for Passover), singing, learning Hebrew and Jewish History.  The teacher works closely with each child to progress at his or her own level.  A few of the children from this exposure will be looking to further their Jewish Education by trying out the day school.   At the same time parents are encouraged to stay, coffee and refreshments are always available.  Although the program is costly, no child is turned away because the family cannot pay for the program.  The Hamilton Jewish Social Services gives a special thank you to Rabbi Daniel Green for having the vision to start this integration program.
