INTERNATIONAL REFUGEE CONFERENCE
Sponsored by Canadian Council for Refugees

The Canadian Council for Refugees will be holding an International Conference on Refugee Rights from June 17 to 19, 2006.  The purpose of the conference is to bring together representatives of NGO’s from around the world to examine the state of refugee protection and the role being played by NGO’s.  It is hoped that the participants will leave the conference with strategies to ensure that NGO’s work together more effectively across borders.  The Conference will be an excellent opportunity to meet and learn from experts in the field from around the world, exchange ideas, and network.

The conference will include plenary sessions, workshops and working sessions to deliver specific action items.  Workshops will be held on such topics as Combating Negative Public Opinion and Promoting Positive Attitudes Towards Immigrants and Refugees; Family Reunification; Gender Violence and Refugees; Integration of Resettled Refugees: Professionalization of Settlement and Welcoming Communities.

Mila Voihanski, Executive Director of JIAS Canada will be leading the workshop on Professionalization of Settlement and co-leading the workshop on Welcoming Communities.
