Celebrating Jewish Immigrants to Canada

This Project is a celebration of Jewish Immigrants to Canada, their successes and contributions.

The Jewish Immigrant Aid Society, (JIAS) later to be known as Jewish Immigrant Aid Services of Canada, was incorporated in 1922. Although in those days the head office was in Montreal, JIAS had reception and assistance facilities available in Halifax, St. John (New Brunswick) and Quebec City.

Since that time, JIAS Canada has touched the lives of many of us, our parents grandparents, and great-grandparents. It is a beacon for Jewish immigrants and Jewish refugees from around the world and remains a significant resource to the communities in which they settle.

One of our priorities is to help create an immigration-positive and immigrant-friendly and supportive environment as well as educate the Jewish community and the community at large about the value of immigration and the unique talents and skills that immigrants bring to Canada.

This project is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the success of Jewish immigrants to Canada as well as JIAS Canada. It features interviews/stories of immigrant successes, of those who have given back to the community in one way or another. These are stories of people from different waves of immigration who have made a difference, and who have brought their unique talents to this country thus enriching the mosaic of Canadian life both mainstream and Jewish.

A group of very committed and talented volunteers has contributed to the creation of this fascinating project. We want to express our thanks and deepest gratitude to each and every one of them for their dedication and their commitment to this project, but most of all to Jewish immigrants in Canada.
